Upgraded PC

Getting that RTL8139 ethernet card proved annoyingly impossible.
Add to that I always wanted to have an AMD machine..I finally upgraded my rig.
Got an AMD 4200 Plus X2 Dual Core, nVidia 6100 chipset board and 1GB DDR2 Dynet RAM in exchange for my older components
Kept older power supply, graphics card, HDD. HDD is barely 4 months old anyway.
This new rig is pretty fast.
Now I have WinXP and BackTrack3 installed in same configuration as the older one.
Both OS working fine. General as well as gaming performance is improved noticably.
Virtual OS in VMware wrok faster and now I can use Windows Server 2008 on VMWare too. It asks for 512 minimum MB RAM

Truck on Fire

Now it happened that me and my colleague (Zubair) were lazing in front of a road side tea stall.
I glance bhind his shoulder and see a truck coming in a zig-zag kind of way..like the driver is drunk

It comes closer and I see that its on fire. It was carrying hay and it caught fire somehow.
i start grinning ( :\) and said "Us truck ko dekh"
He glances behind and nearly jumps out of his skin.."oye, us mein to aag lagee hai.

Me: - Yes

Zubair :- (In a panicky voice) Oye ..wo idhar hee aa raha hai

Me:- (Grinning even more) haan

In the meanwhile, 3-4 bales of hay fell down from the truck, partially blocking the road.

Zubair:- **&^%$$.. ye to khatarnaak (dangerous) ho gaya hai

Me: - haan haan

(:D)

Now the truck was 40-50 metres away and trying to locate fire brigade people
It was on the first turn..but in panic driver missed the turn and started coming towards us as theree was a bit of ground to make a turn.

Zubair:- (Really scared) wo truck idhar hee aa raha hai

Me:- haan. aaag bhee barr gayee hai
Saale ko itnaa barra fire station nahi dikha.

Now the truck reached us and started to make the turn

Zubair- (In real panic)oye peeche ho !!
peeche ho
barra khatra hai yaar. Truck wala paagal ho gaya hai.

Me:- (I start laughing again)Saale kanhaa hogaa. Itnee jagah hai. morr lega wo truck

Zubair:- ***&^%$%$%&)(* barree heat nikal rahee hai

:-s

Somehow driver managed to loacte and take his truck into the fire station

Zubair: -Shukar hai pahunch gaya

ME:- he he. main soch raha tha..agar aag fuel tank tak pahunch jaatee to truck explode hota ya nahin

Zubair:- Ab to nahi hoone wala. Fire brigade waale paani fenk rahein hai uspar

Me:- Koi baat nahi. 1 aur aa raha hai waise hee condition mein

Zubair:- (Glances back and exclaims)..oye ek aur truck mein aag lagi hai yaar. Wo bhee idhar hee aa rahaa hai

Me: (grining) haan

But driver of that truck located the fire station quickly and took it there.

Zubair: - (looking releived)
Chal ab hum bhee chaalk kar dekh te hain

Me:- hain?

Zubair:- Abe chal na. chal ke dekhte hain..kaise aag bhujate hain

Me:- khote..kya hai dekhne waala isme??

Zubair:- chal na. chal na

Me:- *&*(&)(*  acha acha

We spend nxt 20 minutes watching fire being put out

(yawn)
We were not alone..there was a sizeable crowd around. All morons like us gaping at firemen doing their work

After 20 minutes
Me:- Mujhe lagta hai...(:|) kee mujhe kaafi farak hai

Zubair:- kaise??

Me:- wanhaa 2 truck mein aag lagee thee..aur main hans rahaa thaa

Zubair:- (thoughtful)..haan wo to hai he (shrug)

Me:- hmmmm

BackTrack Installed

Finally managed to install BackTrack 3 on my PC today. it was really hard work..but did it somehow. Don't know if this text  is going to make sense to anybody or not.Anyhow..here are the details:

Configuration of my PC:

Intel Pentium 2.66Ghz
Asus P5RDVM Motherboard with X900 Chipset
XFX's NVidia 6200TC Card
(But using 8400 currently)
512MB RAM
One 100MB NIC on PCI slot (Motherboard has another onboard but its faulty.)
Western Digital 160GB SATA
Seagate 20GB PATA

4 Windows partitions on WD dsik with WIndows XP Pro installed on 1st partition

Now I wanted to install BT3 without messing up my XP installation. Still a newbie to Linux and can't just migrate to Linux as yet.

I installed Acronis disk director and made 3 more partitions. One 1Gb for Linux swap , one 12GB ReiserFS for BT3 and made one 6GB empty space

I also installed Acronis boot loader, just to be safe
Now my previous attempts to successfuly make my PC dualbootable failed with BT. So I thought of installing Ubuntu Linux too. First I booted from an Ubuntu CD and installed it on HDD. In installation process I selected use the largest available free space.
It used that 6GB free space to install itself. After installation I rebooted the PC and was promptly greeted with a GRUB menu with booting options for both XP and Ubuntu.

Now its time for BT3.
Booted using Backtrack 3 DVD. Since I had already made partitions I didnt need to make new using fdiask command.
Just used "Install BT to HD " option from its start menu.

The 12Gb ReiserFS partition was /dev/sda5. Used that for installing BT and /dev/sda for installing MBR. Used full install and unchecked "remove from MBR" option. It took like 10-15 minutes for install.

Rebooted and bumped into LILO boot loader of BT.

Ubuntu and Windows nowhere visible.
:)

:)

Booted into BT and logged in using default password.
type "liloconfig" and selected new LILO installatiion
In next menu selected Add Windows Installation and added /dev/sda1
For Ubuntu added /dev/sda8 and "dev/sda5" for BT
Note that these sda will differ for different PCs. Could be hda if you have PATA disk or sda 1,2,3 etc may differ.

Saved and rebooted

This time I got Acronis boot loader menu
:D
But with only 2 choices
One Windows XP and other Linux
Selected Linux and got LILO of BT3 . But this time with 3 options. Windows, Ubuntu and backTrack3
ALl working perfectly
:)

Well except for one small part
can't access net from both linux distros. Actually, can't even ping my gateway. I have a Sify connection. An ethernet cable plugging directly to ethernet card. Then I have to run a cleint program to login using my username and password.
A friend of mine who has installed Slackware faces the same problem
But thats for another day.

Tomorrow I'm going to fix that
